I had this letter from a blind woman, who said, “I don’t understand. My husband tells me people are criticising Spitting Image in the papers for not being funny, and I think it’s the funniest programme on television; I ‘watch’ it every week.” And it was a brilliant radio show, but because the puppets were so striking, your visual sense was so overloaded you didn’t really listen to what was happening, you just saw puppets hitting each other.
