Vary your media diet

In times of crisis the mass media will influence public support for government policies. Though television coverage has a different impact than the print media have.

In the aftermath of 9/11 people who only got their news through television were much more in favour of the “Patriot act”, and other laws limiting their civil rights, than the newspaper readers were. According to this report [pdf] of the University of Wisconsin.

The big question is of course: but what if the government exaggerates the crisis, or even fakes it?
