So it goes
Kurt Vonnegut gave a rare interview to BBC’s The Culture Show. Sunday it will be 60 years ago the allied forces bombed and destroyed the German city of Dresden. Vonnegut was one of the very few survivors then. He was held as a prisoner of war there.
The stupidity of this unnecessary bombardement is the central theme of his first successful novel: Slaughterhouse Five.
Vonnegut had something to say about the reasons behind the American invasion of Iraq, tonight. Though he blames writers as well, when it comes to it:
Revenge. It’s the easiest story to tell.
While revenge hardly ever is a good reason for anything.
