Bull

In my continuing quest to find out how EU-phobic our media are, a German example.

The European Commission is drawing up guidelines to stop advertisers making outrageous claims; especially when it comes to how healthy their products are. When there’s no proof for it, companies shouldn’t claim such effects.

But, according to the German media, the European Commission wants to ban all advertisements with claims that cannot be proven, or are plainly wrong.

Like: “Red Bull gives you wings / Red Bull geeft je vleugels.”

Or: “Carlsberg, probably the best lager in the world.”

Which is just what we need of course, media ridiculing an effort to break down some of the worst effects of commercialism in order to get a good story. Especially, since there’s a real shortage of journalists who control and check European decisions; as they’re about the only control mechanism we have.
