Engelbart

As early as 9 December 1968 a man named Douglas Engelbart was the first to publicly demonstrate how to use a mouse to work with a computer. And he showed that particular audience the hyperlink. And many many other innovations we all take for granted now, but which would sometimes take more than 25 years to gain a mass audience.

A lot more clips from that demonstration are available online as well. Unfortunately, they’re in RealMedia. Still, I like to look at them, from time to time. To see history in the making.

However, the main reason for showing you this particular clip is that Douglas Engelbart has been interviewed by Robert Cringely, for NerdTV. [Or dowload that video here]

Turns out, Engelbart got many of his original ideas already in 1951.
